Rebuttal to feedback regarding Therazane and our boobies segment

Hey Guys, Just before we start show 76, I just want to talk about something that’s happened this week.

We have received some feedback from a listener regarding our segment “Best and Worst Boobies in WoW”, and in particular show 72.
During this show, Therazane was chosen as having the worst boobs, with our guest asking why the earth mother figure had to be portrayed with saggy boobies, couldn’t she be portrayed with more pert boobies like Alexstraza for example. This started a light hearted discussion about whether Therazane just needed a better tailor or corsetiere.

The feedback we received about this says that we have upset people by heaping hate and shame upon the Earthmother and her boobies, and accuses us of body shaming and supporting and promoting a modern male perspective of what beautiful is as regards the female form.

After receiving this, we really felt it was worth spending time discussing this offline with each other and then sharing with you our feelings on this.

Such a topic is naturally something that is close to all of us, being women and Roblin, being a chap who appreciates the female form. But speaking for the ladies of @ggwshow, we have personal perspectives on boobies, being owners of them, and also being women of different shapes, sizes and opinions. Between us, we’ve got all sorts of boobies and bodies, big, small, pert, bouncy and saggy. And they are all perfect in their own way. Not everyone likes every type but that’s fine, as long as no-one is rude or unkind.

Therazane and her daughter, Princess Theradas are obviously modeled off historical depictions of the Mother Goddess, for example the Venus of Willendorf. Such pieces often depict larger female forms with saggy boobies and are beautiful. Overall, we think that Blizzard actually have done a good job in their tribute to these pieces, with one error. The real problem is how the faces have been modelled and in fact we think it’s the faces that cause people to dislike the models. Both WoW models have distorted and rough faces, which act as a harsh contrast to the rest of their forms so as to render the models quite unsympathetic and a little disturbing. Theradras actually has quite pert boobies if you go back and loot at the model.

We have never sort to imply or heap any shame on saggy boobies, or anything or anyone that does not have the form of characters like Alexstraza. Beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder and people should be free to live their lives free of harassment, upset, bullying or intimidation because of their physical form. For one member of the show this is a particularly sensitive topic as they are recovering from an eating disorder that has been sustained in part over the years due to bullying regarding their physicality. The anonymity of online gaming can be a huge release from these day to day pressures as no-one can see you, so can’t comment on what you look like: in that regard it can be a safe space.

Our segment where we ask our guests about boobies in game is meant to be a light hearted way to end our interview with them. It’s all about personal preference and it is perfectly acceptable for people to not like these models in game. It may mean they don’t like them IRL but that is their choice. It might also mean they just prefer pertness in game. Either way, it is perfectly legitimate for them to chose what they like or don’t like. If our question ever turned into a discussion that suggested that RL saggy boobs are unnatural, or disgusting, or wrong, then we would jump on that but it’s never happened. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but respect that others opinions may vary is equally as important.

If anyone has any further feedback then please let us know at Thanks for writing to us.

Show 75: This week the GGW-crew goes all serious when we tackle some very serious subjects with regards to the behaviour of the wow-community. Of course we have some more light-hearted topics like the accents in wow, lopsided boobies and loincloths. However, this weeks side topic is something we feel very strongly about and we hope we did it enough justice on our podcast.
